The Workshop on RFID Security 2006 is the successor of the successful Workshop on RFID and Light-Weight Crypto 2005. As last year, it is organised by the Institute for Applied Information Processing and Communications (IAIK) of Graz University of Technology. The workshop will be held on July 12-14 at the Graz University of Technology.

The aim of the workshop is to increase the awareness for security requirements in RFID systems. RFID security issues are a challenge for RFID technologies to become an enabling technology for the Internet of things. The Workshop on RFID Security will help to bridge the gap between cryptographic researchers and RFID developers.

The scope includes, but is not limited to, the following topics:
•  New applications for secure RFID systems
•  Privacy-enhancing techniques for RFID
•  Cryptographic protocols for RFID
•  Integration of secure RFID systems
•  Resource-efficient implementation of cryptography

Last year about 70 persons from all over the world (Austria, Germany, Belgium, USA, Spain, Italy, Switzerland, Korea, Russia, England, Sweden, Netherlands, China, France, Czech Republic, Denmark, Turkey) attended the Workshop on RFID and Light-Weight Crypto in 2005. About 65% of the participants came from academia, the rest from industry.

The Institute for Applied Information Processing and Communications (IAIK) at the Graz University of Technology focuses on research and implementation of cryptographic algorithms. This research has contributed to IAIK's core competence in IT security. IAIK is member of the European Network of Excellence for Cryptology - ECrypt.

Graz University of Technology is founding partner of the PROACT initiative, which is a teaching and research initiative that focuses on contactless identification technologies like radio-frequency identification (RFID). Furthermore several marketleading RFID companies are situated in the Graz region, which makes Graz the ideal location for a workshop on RFID.

Graz is also an attractive city for visitors. It presents itself with fascinating landmarks and historic monuments. Entire parts of the city, such as the Old Town, are protected as a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site.

We are looking forward to seeing you in Graz!
